If you would like your tax credit donation to help with the cost of this great event, anyone can donate online via the THMS website http://edweb.tusd.k12.az.us/thms/ where there is a Tax Credit Information button near the bottom of the list at the right. Select Tucson Magnet from the school list, choose Other from the activity list, and type ARCUS GSA in the Activity Description box.
 
Alternatively, checks may be written to “Tucson High Magnet School” with “ARCUS GSA” in the note area at the bottom left of the check.  These can be mailed to:

What is a tax credit?
A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the actual tax owed to the State of Arizona.  It reduces your tax liability by the amount you donate, up to $400 for married (yes—legally married in the State of Arizona—sigh) or $200 for single or head of household.  For example, if you donate $200 to an eligible Arizona school activity, you reduce your Arizona state tax bill by $200 or your tax refund will be increased by $200.  If you pay no Arizona income taxes, either through withholding taxes or tax due when you file your tax return, you are not eligible for the tax credit.  The tax credit can also be taken as a donation on your federal tax return.  For further information please consult your tax professional.
 
Who is eligible?
The tax credit is available to all Arizona individuals who pay state income taxes, regardless of whether or not they have children in school.
 
Can I choose which school will receive my donation?
Yes—by making the check payable to the school of your choice.
 
Can I let someone else choose which school will receive my donation?
Yes.  The Business Education Committee of the GLBT Chamber of Commerce can select schools based on our connections with the Gay Straight Alliance Groups that are working with us.  Check with us and we‚ll let you know who we are working with.
 
Do I have to donate the full $200 or $400?
No, you can choose to donate any amount up to that amount.  You can also make payments in installments, but they must be mailed or brought to the school of your choice no later than December 31st, 2009.  If you give them to the Business Education Committee, please do so a few days prior to the deadline so we can be sure to get them turned in by December 31st.
